What is general surgery?
General Surgeons diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions. There are even some issues that don’t even require surgery. Usually contact is made through a referral from your General Practitioner (GP).
First consultation
The first step in the process of diagnosis and treatment is the initial consultation. We will ask you about your symptoms, perform an examination and review your investigations to date. In consultation with you a plan for the next step is made which might include further tests or surgery. We will then communicate to your GP, who referred you in the first place, so that they are kept in the loop concerning your condition.
Surgery
If surgery is required this is usually performed at Ormiston Hospital and Franklin Private Hospital.
